LIFE has been full of ups and downs for HSPSE pupil David Horsey in the last few days.

After grabbing the headlines when he shared the first round lead in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth before tumbling out of contention, his spirits have been lifted again by winning a place in next month's US Open.

The 24-year-old Styal tournament professional, who works with putting Coach Phil Kenyon, in his first season on the European Tour, was one of 11 players including his ISM stablemate Simon Dyson to clear the qualifying hurdle at Walton Heath out of a starting line-up on 75.

As Ryder Cup men Paul McGinley, David Howell and Niclas Fasth missed out along with Nick Dougherty, Jamie Donaldson and Phil Archer, Horsey secured his spot at Bethpage Black in New York with 72 and 66 for six-under-par total, two shots behind Timperley-based Dyson.
